This short tour of 6 nights and 7 days was designed for our customers who are particularly interested in seeing the White-bellied Heron, a critically endangered bird with a population of 60 individuals worldwide, and the Magnificent Black-necked Cranes, with a population of a few thousand in the world.

Forktails, Ducks, Waders, and resident species such as rare and most sought-after species like Ward’ Trogon, Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasant, Ibisbill, and Yellow-rumped Honeyguide. All in all, we will show you over 170 birds on this tour. Other highlights include the visit to some of the ancient, beautiful fortresses and the temple

Start your day early with a drive to Dochula Pass (3,100m), a popular birding and sightseeing spot known for its breathtaking views of the Himalayas and rich forests filled with conifers and rhododendrons. Enjoy birding along the pass before descending into the warm and lush Punakha Valley (1,250m), home to subtropical broadleaf forests and river habitats.
Key Bird Species to Watch: Spotted Laughingthrush, Black-faced Laughingthrush, Blue-fronted Redstart, Hodgson’s Redstart, Great Parrotbill, Brown Parrotbill, and a variety of tits, waterfowl, and shorebirds.
Overnight: Punakha
Depart from Punakha and journey southward toward the district of Tsirang, passing through a rich mixture of warm temperate forests and subtropical vegetation zones with a diverse range of habitats from river valleys and farmlands to dense forests.
Key Bird Species to Watch: The critically endangered White-bellied Heron, Wallcreeper, Blue Rock Thrush, Himalayan Prinia, Common Green Magpie, and several species of Barbets and Woodpeckers.
Overnight: Tsirang
Continue your journey as you descend into the southern lowlands of Gelephu (200m), located along Bhutan’s border with Assam, India.
