Bhutan is a privileged region for butterfly-watching. It is estimated that Bhutan will have about 800-900 species, including a few species such as Bhutan Glory and the Kaiser-I-Hind are internationally protected by the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). Bhutan is an excellent representation to find both the Indo-Malayan and Palaearctic species.
The incredible range of habitats present in Bhutan, from subtropical in the south to alpine in the north presents a vast array of habitat niches for butterflies.

Day 1 – Arrive Paro – Transfer to Thimphu | On the first day, we will arrive at Paro and proceed to transfer to Thimphu. We will engage in cultural sightseeing and explore the surrounding area of Thimphu. During our exploration and drive to Thimphu, we may come across various species of butterflies such as Dark Clouded Yellow, Pale Clouded Yellow, Indian Tortoiseshell, Indian Cabbage White, and Common Peacock, to name a few. |
