My wife and I were very happy with our trip to Bhutan and with Off to Bhutan. Our guide Tshering spoke excellent English. Not only was he an excellent bird guide, he was a first-rate cultural guide. His knowledge of and respect for the Buddhist temples was a delight. He had a great sense of humor, which we enjoyed. We did not understand why we needed a separate driver ahead of time. It soon became apparent that this was a necessity. Our driver was superb. Both he and Tshering worked long hours to make our vacation enjoyable. We were very pleased with the accommodations and food. The only exception was near Royal Manas Park. However, there were no other hotels in the area so this was not the fault of Off to Bhutan. We would not have wanted to miss that part of the trip because the birds and golden langurs were fantastic. Off to Bhutan is a great company whether you are only interested in birds or you want a combination bird and cultural tour (which we recommend if you have never been to Bhutan before).

We have just returned from a superb 17 days tailored bird watching / culture trip. Off to Bhutan did a fabulous job tailoring our trip to include many top birding locations, cultural places and rafting (our special request). Norbu helped us plan our trip with recommendations, special arrangements and advice.
We were met in Guwahati (India) by our guide, Sherab and commenced our trip from the east travelling west to Paro. Sherab is a very experienced birding guide, allowing us to see over 250 birds including the endemic target species, a Himalayan black bear and the 3 langur species, making sure we always got the best view and photography opportunity. Sherab generously shared Buddhist and Bhutanese insights, explaining many cultural aspects during our trip, and we always felt he went out of his way to make our trip as effortless and comfortable as possible.
Our driver was also excellent, we always felt safe given the roads were under construction – narrow, unpaved in sections and with larger drops next to the road.
In every single hotel we have stayed, Off to Bhutan reserved the best room for us.
If you are considering if or if not you should travel to Bhutan – GO. It is a gem in the Himalayas, rich in culture and history, with spectacular scenery (in higher altitudes literally breathtaking) and rich flora and fauna. We would definitely recommend Off to Bhutan to anyone who considers travelling to Bhutan.
We are all back home. I just wanted to let you know that our trip with Sherab was GREAT !!!
We recorded 315+ species of birds including 45 lifers for me, more than I expected!! For the rest of the group, most species were actually new.
Everything went very well, smoothly indeed, with nothing wrong to report. Sherab is a very good guide knowing his birds always ready to find more and never reluctant to help. The cooking team always prepared great meals in sometimes in difficult conditions. The car was very good too as well as our driver Suba! At last, I was amazed by the high standard of hotels that you provided with hot water and electricity everywhere!!!!
You and your team did a tremendously good job from A to Z. I can only recommend you to other birders and I will try to visit again with another group probably in 2017 (I’ll send you less e-mails with questions by then…).
Just keep on doing such a good work in your fascinating country!! May God or Buddha or whatever divinity and your smiling and friendly Bhutanese people maintain it as pristine as it still is today!! I wish there were many more such intelligent and wisely nature conservation-minded people as you …
Thanks a lot again!!
I’ve just returned from an excellent birding trip to Bhutan with Off to Bhutan. Norbu guided us. We could not have asked for a better guide or a better company to conduct our trip. Norbu’s bird knowledge and the very professional organization of the whole trip gave us a very rewarding experience. I would highly recommend Off to Bhutan for anyone planning a birding trip to the country
A note to express my sincere thanks to you and Tenzin for a most fabulous birding tour through the Unique Kingdom of Bhutan. Your knowledge of the birds and mammals of your nation is indeed impressive and extensive. Your hearing and sight are what we all wish we had…and could maintain…well into our senior years. All eight of us gained a vast insight into the natural history and cultural specialties of Bhutan. Your guidance, knowledge and sincere but light-hearted approach to education were truly appreciated. I do plan to return, hopefully with a group from Canada, who will, I am certain, enjoy your mountainous, forested and pristine country as much as we did. With your guidance, we saw and heard 300 bird species, plus a dozen mammals or so. There are more to see, so a return trip is on my list.
Thank you so much for a wonderful trip. It was a real privilege to experience the beauty and natural splendor of your country and to be exposed to many of your cultural sights and the wonderful people we met.
Sherab and Dorji were the best! I’m really grateful for all the hard work they both put in and how helpful they always were. Sherab is an expert birder and went out of his way to show us so many incredibly amazing birds and Dorji’s driving was exemplary. I always felt safe and well taken care of. The camping crew was wonderful as well. I appreciate all their efforts and kindnesses and please wish them all well for me.
Thank you so much for your kind arrangement for our trip. Professional birding, nice view of Bhutan, perfect and unique hotel… Nick and I, we enjoyed a lot. We would like to come back again.
We found many new species birds, nice valley, and spectacular festival. People are hospitable. I love the religion and culture in Bhutan.
You are so so so so lucky that you were born and live in such amazing and magic country.
Our guide Mr. Sherab and our driver Mr. Dorji, they were so excellent. I really wanna say, both of them are professional and dedicated. If possible, next time we might organize a family trip to Bhutan again, we would like to meet you and Sherab and Dorji again.
I have many many words to say, but just don’t know where to start, it’s an impressive and memorable trip.
Many thanks again for your careful and considerate arrangement and Mr. Sherab and Mr. Dorji’s service.
First thank Mr. Norbu from “Off to Bhutan” for the great arrangements during our trip.
I was very well pleased with the good hotels, and excellent knowledge, hospitality & company of Sherab and Dorji J. We had a great time, saw lots of birds, and it was a very memorable trip indeed. I personally have fallen in love with Bhutan, and plan to return again in the future. Please thank Sherab and Dorji again.
In March/April 2015 we made a birding trip of three weeks to the Kingdom of Bhutan. We want to thanks Norbu of Off to Bhutan for organizing this tour. We started our journey in Paro, in the western part of the country, and ended in Samdrup Jongkhar in the southeast at the border of Bhutan and India (Assam). Two young people accompanied us on this trip: Tshering, our guide and Phurba Dorji, the driver.
Tshering was very helpful in finding the birds and succeeded in showing us most of the local specialties. Among them the Ibisbill, Blood Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Himalayan Monal, Rufous-necked Hornbill and many more…
Our driver Phurba did a great job in driving us carefully along the many curves on the road, sometime very narrow roads.
Nine out twenty-two two nights we camped and were accompanied by a crew of another 3 young men who cared for the tents and meals, many thanks to Norbu, Sa, gay and Sonam for their support.
We arrived two days late due to the devastating earthquake in Nepal, however, the itinerary had been faultlessly reorganized and operated perfectly during our visit. We wanted to see the birds, the plants and experience some of the cultures of Bhutan. We were fortunate to have Tshering as our guide and Yeshey as our driver, both were exceptional. Tshering had amazing eyesight and hearing and was able to spot birds that we would easily have missed, many from their song before they became visible. He ensured we could see and identify each bird, making sure we agreed with his identification. He had a wide knowledge of the plants we saw and any thing he was unsure of he researched overnight coming up with identification in the morning. We could not have wished for more. With Tshering as our guide we visited Dzongs at Punakha, Trongsa, and Paro, they were wonderful.
Our highlights? There were many but the top four are:
• Seeing the White Bellied Heron flying through the forest near Punakha
• Sandra spotting a Pallas’s Fish Eagle in Jigme Dorji National Park
• Visiting Kila Gompa Nunnery, stunning.
• The rhododendrons in Phobjikha Valley, they were beautiful.Due to the cancellation of our flights through Kathmandu airport, we were forced to extend our stay in Bhutan and return home via Delhi. Norbu and Tshering organized this without a problem.
Thank you all for our great trip but thank you especially Tshering and Yeshey
